Fall Adventure Route
Day 1 - Canoeing in Bobcaygeon
Base yourself in Bobcaygeon to start this adventure trip in Kawarthas Northumberland. We suggest checking into the Bobcaygeon Inn or Southwinds Resorts for your accommodation.
Choose from one of the following paddling routes:
- (More experience) Nogies Creek Paddling Route
- (Beginner) Buckeye Surf Rentals Shop to Green Bay
After your paddle you’ll want to refresh yourself with a nice cold drink and fill your belly. Bobcaygeon has lots of options, from margaritas and Mexican-style food truck delights at El Patio to pub fare at 72 Bolton Sports Café.
A visit to Bobcaygeon is not complete without Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream, so save some room for dessert from Bigley’s Sweet Treats or drive out to the factory on Prince Street.

Day 2 -Bobcaygeon to Peterborough via Buckhorn
Take in the scenic route driving from Bobcaygeon to Buckhorn, and enjoy some lunch at Mainstreet Bar and Grill beside Lock 31. This restaurant gives you amazing views of the waterway as it reflects the fall colours and the boats passing through the system.
Around the corner you’ll find an entrance to Kawarthas Highland Signature Signature Site. Have your eyes peeled as the sign for the parking lot isn’t very big. Here you’ll enjoy a short but strikingly beautiful hike through the forest trail that takes you along the Mississauga River.
Next continue on to Whetung’s Ojibwe Centre in Curve Lake First Nation Reserve. Here you will find a spectacular collection of Indigenous crafts as well as fine art, jewelry, moccasins, leather work, sculptures and much more.
Continue your drive to Peterborough and check into your night’s accommodation, the Holiday Inn Peterborough-Waterfront. It has lovely lake views within walking distance of restaurants, pubs and shops.
There are lots of dining options to choose from in Peterborough for the evening. We recommend the Publican House Brewery & Pub for dinner. Try a flight of their house brews and wood-fired pizza, a smoked meat plate that comes with deep fried mac & cheese wedges, or KFC… but not the Colonel’s kind. This is Kawartha Fried Cauliflower, and it is delicious.

Day 3 - Peterborough to Port Hope
Breakfast can be enjoyed at the hotel, or why not try the Silver Bean Café and see why it’s been coined “your waterfront cottage in the city.” Enjoy a cuppa on their picturesque patio.
Wander downtown Peterborough in the morning for its unique shops and views of Little Lake right in the city centre. If you’re there on the right day you might be able to take in the one of the farmer’s markets—Peterborough Farmers’ Market and the Peterborough Regional Farmers’ Market run on Saturdays, and the Peterborough Downtown Farmers’ Market is open on Wednesdays.
For a unique experience drive to Rolling Grape Vineyard for wine tasting and charcuterie in Bailieboro.
After Rolling Grape, drive south west to your next adventure, Tree Top Trekking Ganaraska Forest, for an exhilarating experience zipping and climbing through the Ganaraska Forest taking in the beauty of the fall colours.
