Fall Foodie Explorer

Day 1 - Lindsay

Lindsay is the home of Mariposa Dairy’s Lenberg Farms, which offers the award-winning Lindsay Bandaged Goat Cheddar. You can find this cheddar in gourmet food shops across the region.

For some fresh locally raised meat, stop into Nesbitt’s Meat Market.

Since this itinerary is a foodie marathon and not a sprint, we recommend Milk and Honey Eatery for lunch. You’ll love the fresh and healthy sandwiches, soups, wraps and paninis.

Lindsay has some nice hiking trails nearby to help you work up an appetite, or you can enjoy some refreshments at Pie Eyed Monk & Lindsay Brewing Company or the Cat and the Fiddle.

Savour a Greek dinner at Olympia Restaurant, a family-owned business that’s been a part of the community since 1906.

Book yourself into the centrally located Kent Inn for the evening.

Day 2 - Fenelon Falls & Bobcaygeon

On your way out of Lindsay grab some coffee from the North Ward Coffee Company or a smoothie from Fresh FueLL, two family-run and community driven businesses situated in the same building.

Then drive North to Fenelon Falls, which boasts gorgeous scenery and local eats to warm your foodie heart. Stop in the colourfully decorated Little Pie Shack for some fall treats.

For lunch enjoy the Lotus Indian Bistro with dishes as colourful as the fall foliage.

You’ll continue on to the “Hip” town of Bobcaygeon, made famous by Gord Downie. There are plenty of shops to browse and views of the river, or you can check out Kawartha Settlers Village.

For dinner try Graz, where the cuisine is local favourites served with a Portuguese twist.

Your accommodation for the evening will be the New Rockland Motel, centrally located and offering stunning water views.

If you’re able to add an extra night, check out Gordon’s Bobcaygeon Home Rentals (2-night minimum). At Gordon’s you’ll stay in river bunkies that float in boat slips at Gordon’s Yacht Harbour Marina on the Bobcaygeon River. Pass by and you’ll see why it’s been dubbed “Jelly Bean Row.”

Honourable food mention goes to Gyros & Pizza Express in Bobcaygeon.

Day 3 - Bobcaygeon to Peterborough via Buckhorn

In the morning head around the corner to the Wheatsheaf Café for a taste of their Potato Benedict and avocado toast with poached egg and salsa.

After breakfast, take a scenic drive from Bobcaygeon to the small village of Buckhorn. There are hiking trails along the way and scenic views for photo ops.

Enjoy a picnic lunch waterside with takeaway from Pizza Alloro in Buckhorn. These pizzas are deliciously mouth watering! Try the Mighty Cesar, Alla Diavola, or the Pollo Aglio, just to name a few specialties.

Continue your drive through the lake region to arrive in the city of Peterborough. Here we recommend stopping in at Primal Cuts butcher shop for meats to fill your charcuterie boards.

To satisify your sweet tooth, visit Naked Chocolate and indulge in their exquisite handcrafted artisan chocolates.

Dinner this evening will be at St Veronus Café and Tap Room. This Belgium restaurant has a massive Beer menu serving the best brews Belgium has to offer. Try their Moules & Frites or any meal that comes with stoemp!

Your accommodation this evening is at the Lift Lock Bed and Breakfast on Canal street.

Honourable food mentions go to The Cody Inn in Buckhorn, serving Chinese cuisine, and The Food Forest vegan restaurant in Peterborough.

Day 4 - Campbellford to Millbrook

Stop for breakfast at Ashburnham Alehouse in Peterborough before taking a scenic fall drive to Campbellford.

Campbellford is the place people rave about when it comes to donuts, cheese and chocolates. Head straight to Dooher’s Bakery, where there is quite often a line outside the door for their famous donuts.

Next you’ll want to fill your shopping bags at Empire Cheese and World’s Finest Chocolate Factory Outlet Store.

Lunch will be at Capers Tap House, located in an historic home around the corner from the Trent River.

From Campbellford you’ll take some scenic country roads to Millbrook, with a few stops along according to your tastes:

  • Betty’s Pie and Tarts
  • Herma’s Fine Foods
  • Rolling Grape Vineyard

Arrive in Millbrook and check into Field Day Art and Bed and Breakfast. Dinner is at Moody’s Bar and Grill. Be sure to stroll through the village afterwards and see why it’s known as a choice location for film sets.

Day 5 - Drive Home

Before driving home, enjoy some coffee and breakfast at the Pastry Peddler.

Your last stop will be Millbrook Valley Chocolates… because parting is such sweet sorrow.
